[After Embark the map was just a snow covered ice plain. Having played several other glacial maps before it was uncertain how many layers of ice were between my dwarfs and the safety of rock]
"3rd Granite 190: A blizzard man watched us today. Our caravan guard Stinthad Bomrekkum stood over us while we dug a trench in the ice. I hope it doesn't fetch more of its ilk and return tomorrow."
[Discovered job cancellations happen based on sight and not proximity, path finding]
"5th Granite 190: Thankfully the ice was not very thick. We have a semi-secure ice cave to stay in and we struck rock. One of the useless peasants left his pick out in the cold! Now we are down to 3 picks until we secure more weapons."
[Used the military system to force all dwarves into the "safety pit". Since there was a free short sword, one of the miners threw his pick away and went to "Fetch Equipment"]

| Tip: There are 8-12 wolves in a pack. Our hunters cant survive against all of them |
"8th Malacite 190: Still no word from the caravan we were promised. We should be ok if it arrives soon. The defence preparations are almost complete. More cages would be nice but timber is running a little short. Ive ordered a retracting bridge to be built. The pit underneath it will be quite deep."
[The pit underneath the bridge is a great excuse for stripmining! Hoping to dump a few monsters down there]
"28th Malacite 190: A wave of migrants came before we could finish the fortifications. They were stuck out there most of the month huddling. Finally one of them found the discarded pick from when we arrived and dug a way in, just as the retractable bridge was finished."
"2nd Galena 190: One of the new miners got himself caught outside when the bridge went up. He is being chased by a Blizzard man. Ive mobilized the militia to go out and rescue him. Heres hoping we are prepared!"
"2nd Galena 190: Eight dwarves faced the challenge, eight dwarves drank deep that night! Victory over the Blizzardman! One of the new recuits cut its arm clean off with an iron axe that he had brought."
[Not having read the wiki entry for Blizzard men, I really didnt know how this would go. 8 guys with obsidian swords should do the trick, turns out iron axes work better on creatures made of "ice"]
"17th Limestone 190: A heard of Elk wandered by so I sent some of the men out to hunt them. Just as they began firing a snow storm blew up. Novice marksmen in high winds does not ensure a swift kill!
We finally took ONE of the herd down. More than 40 bolts were fired by the 3 hunters but we need the food more than we need the timber. Unable to see and drowsy from the long fight, Adil Uzolkulet fired the killing blow. Upon returning the kill to the butchery he fell asleep before finishing the work!"
"14th Sandstone 190: Due to his efforts, Adil Uzolkulet has been giving his own squad of marksdwarves. We have now taken down two Elk and two Muskox in a single month. We shall not go hungry yet!"
[This was super fun. keeping an eye out incase any wolfpacks or blizzard men arrived. Made me think how far DF has come since its humble beginnings]
